Crafted under the direction of winemaker Soren Christensen, Hearst Ranch Winery wines are shaped by a philosophy of balance, structure, and restraint. Working closely with estate and selected vineyard sources, each lot is guided by a respect for site and season rather than intervention.

There is a natural rhythm in working with the same vineyard year after year, even as each vintage brings its own expression. At Saunders Vineyard, each block carries a distinct character shaped by the growing season, with variation allowed to show while maintaining a consistent style across the wines.

For red wines, aging takes place primarily in neutral oak, where the influence of the barrel recedes and the purity of the fruit comes forward. A small portion of newer oak is incorporated for depth, used with restraint to support structure without overshadowing the vineyard.

Fermentations are carried out slowly and at cooler temperatures, encouraging a gradual extraction that results in softness, balance, and integrated tannins. White wines and rosé are fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve freshness and clarity. The result is a collection of wines defined by structure, elegance, and a sense of origin.

Soren Christensen brings over two decades of winemaking experience in Paso Robles, having grown alongside the region as it emerged as a world-class wine destination. He built a strong foundation at a large-scale winery before refining his approach with a small, family-owned producer focused on Rhône varietals.

For over a decade, Soren has worked closely with the Saunders family at Hearst Ranch Winery, guiding the wines with a focus on balance, structure, and a deep respect for the vineyard. His approach reflects a commitment to thoughtful farming, restrained winemaking, and the continued evolution of the Paso Robles landscape.
